Double Drop D Tuner Online
Tune your guitar by ear with your microphone, free.
Double Drop D drops both E strings to D, framing your playing with two octave-spanning D drones while leaving the heart of the guitar in standard tuning. Set it up below and let those open Ds ring.
About Double Drop D Tuning
Double Drop D tuning is D A D G B D (low to high). It takes standard Drop D one step further by also lowering the high E string to D, so both the lowest and highest strings ring a D. Crucially, the A string stays intact — unlike Open G, which lowers that fifth string to G — which keeps your inner chord voicings closer to standard and gives the tuning a bright, ringing folk-rock character rather than a slide-guitar chord bed.
To reach it from standard EADGBE, drop two strings a whole step each: the low E down to D and the high E down to D. The A, D, G and B strings all stay exactly where they are. With both outer strings tuned to D you get a sparkling pair of octave drones above and below your chords — a sound Neil Young built a catalogue on.
Because only the two E strings move, Double Drop D is quick to reach and quick to leave, and its retained A string makes it feel familiar while still opening up shimmering open-string melodies.
