About Drop B Tuning
Drop B tuning is B F# B E G# C# (low to high). It follows the same logic as Drop C and Drop D, only deeper: the whole guitar is tuned down a step and a half to C#-standard, then the lowest string is dropped a further whole step to B. That bottom B sits a full minor third below standard tuning's low E, giving you the deepest, heaviest power-chord chug of the common drop tunings while preserving the one-finger power-chord shape on the lowest three strings.
To reach Drop B from standard EADGBE, derive each string: the low E drops to B (down two and a half steps), the A drops to F#, the D drops to B, the G drops to E, the B drops to G#, and the high E drops to C#. Every string except the lowest comes down a step and a half; the lowest comes down a further whole step. Heavier-gauge strings are strongly recommended at this depth to keep tension playable and intonation stable.
The slack, subterranean low B makes this tuning a favourite for the heaviest modern styles.
